औषधियों का वर्गीकरण

(classification of drugs) -

अथर्ववेद में उल्लिखित औषधियों(विविध प्रकार की ओषधियों के लिये द्रष्टव्य अ. ८.७।) का वर्गीकरण चार प्रकार से हो सकता है -

 १. रंग के आधर पर(based on color) - जैसे बधु (भूरे वर्ण की)), असिक्नी (नीले वर्ण की), रोहिणी (लाल वर्ण की), शुक्र (शुक्ल वर्ण की), पृश्नि (चितकबरे वर्ण की), आदि । 

२. बनावट के आधार पर(based on texture) -  प्रस्तृणती (विस्तार वाली), प्रतन्वती (अनेक जड़ों वाली), काण्डिनी (पोरों वाली), अंशुमती (सूक्ष्म अवयवों अथवा काँटों वाली), विशाखा (बिना शाखाओं वाली) आदि। 

३. आकार के आधार पर(depending on size) -  तृण, लता, वीरुधू, वृक्ष, पुष्पवती, फलवती, प्रसूमती आदि। 

४. गुणों के आधार पर(based on qualities) -  मधुमती (मिठास वाली), प्रचेतस् (चेतना उत्पन्न करने वाली), अरुन्धती (घावों को भरने वाली), विषदूषणी (विष को दूर करने वाली), बलासनाशनी (कफ का नाश करने वाली), मोदिनी (मुदिता देने वाली) आदि ।

    अथर्ववेद में अक्षि, नासिका, कर्ण, छुबुक, मस्तिष्क, जिह्वा आदि शरीराङ्गों के ७० से अधिक नाम उपलब्ध हैं।(उदाहरण के लिये द्रष्टव्य अ. २.३३, ९.१२ (७).१, १०.२, २०.९६.१७-२३।) यहाँ इन अङ्गों में उत्पन्न होने वाले रोगों को दूर करने का वर्णन है। यहाँ कुछ मुख्य रोगों की चिकित्सा का संक्षिप्त विश्लेषण उपयोगी होगा।

The medicines mentioned in Atharvaveda (for different types of medicines, see Section 8.7) can be classified in four ways -

1. Based on color - like Badhu (brown color), Asikni (blue color), Rohini (red color), Shukra (white color), Prishni (spotted color), etc.

2. On the basis of texture - Prastrnati (expansive), Pratanvati (with many roots), Kandini (with nodes), Anshumati (with minute elements or thorns), Vishakha (without branches) etc.

3. Depending on size - Trina, Lata, Veerudhu, Vriksha, Pushpavati, Phalvati, Prasumati etc.

4. Based on qualities - Madhumati (sweet), Prachetas (increasing consciousness), Arundhati (healing wounds), Vishdushani (removing poison), Balasanashani (destroying phlegm), Modini (one who gives peace) etc.

     More than 70 names of body parts like axis, nose, ear, chhubuk, brain, tongue etc. are available in Atharva Veda. (For example, Drashtavya A. 2.33, 9.12 (7.1, 10.2, 20.96) .17-23.) Here there is a description of curing the diseases arising in these organs. Here a brief analysis of the treatment of some main diseases will be useful.
